County Fours; Proctor’s rink triumph!

Posted on October 26, 2014

The Cheshire County fours competition was held today at Winnington Park, with a quality field made up of some strong teams. After the group stages the semi finals took place with Gareth Stanway’s four taking on Steve Burrow’s four, while the other semi saw Steve Proctor’s team taking on the four skipped by Bill Burn. In the first semi Gareth’s four made a good start, and this proved decisive as the game went on. Despite a good finish to the game by the Burrows four, Gareth’s rink reached the final. The other semi was a close game, and going into the last end Steve Proctor’s four held a slender two shot lead. Lying two down with his last bowl to come Proctor played a superb bowl to cut it down to one, therefore winning the game and reaching the final. Proctor’s four made a strong start to the final, but a brilliant bowl by Stanway saw his team pick up a four to close the gap to one point with one end to go. Gareth produced another great bowl to lie one shot with Steve having one bowl left. Steve then played a brilliant bowl to take back the shot and therefore winning the title for his rink with Keith Lackford, Ben Holbrook and Ste Tinsley. Finishing positions were;

Winners; K Lackford, B Holbrook, S Tinsley, S Proctor.

Runners up; B Stanway, A Smith, J Neal, G Stanway.

3rd; J Crowther, C Crowther, J Lax, B Burn.

4th;  R Mellor, P Gregory, S White, S Burrows.
