National finals 2015.
Full results and finishing positions can be found on the ESMBA website, under competitions.
This year proved to be a tough one at the Nationals for Cheshire. Starting with the singles on the Thursday we had 3 representatives taking part, but only Adam Smith progressed from the group stages. Gareth Stanway was unlucky to win 2 of his 3 group games and still go out on shots. Adam then bowed out in the last 32.
The pairs was a case of oh so close, as Simon White and Grant Soller reached the final having played superbly all day. Sadly it wasn’t to be as they came up against the pairing of Bronagh and Lee Toleman from Devon, who were in great form themselves. After a good start from the boys to lead 5-1, the Devon pair fought back and eventually took the title. Simon and Grant can be proud of reaching the final, and we hope they can go one better next year!
The fours was next up, and this time we only had two teams taking part. The rink of Keith Lackford, Ste Tinsley, Ben Holbrook and Steve Proctor were very close to reaching the last 16, but lost out to Staffs in a last end thriller! Our other rink of Ben Stanway, Adam Smith, James Neal and Gareth Stanway got to the quarter finals but couldn’t fend off the other Staffs rink skipped by Glyn Berrisford, eventually losing by 2 shots. It was the second year in a row that the rink had gone out at the quarter final stage!
The triples was the final event of the weekend, and our last team standing was the triple of Simon White, Adam Smith and Grant Soller. After progressing as group winners with 3 wins from 3 games confidence was high, but they came up against the triple that included the singles winner Ryan Knight, and after a great game they just missed out after a last end decider.
Overall some good performances from Cheshire, and hopefully we can improve on these and capture a National title next year!
