Cheshire fortunes & misfortunes

Posted by on February 16, 2016 in News | Comments Off on Cheshire fortunes & misfortunes

Both the premier and A team played there respective ICC matches this weekend. Cheshire A went out to a strong Cambridgeshire team at Church Gresley.

Cheshire Premier looked like they were going out after the first two sessions at Wyken Community Centre but a good third session with wins in both pairs and one win and a draw in the singles, we managed to secure the aggregates and take a slim lead in to the final session. A good last session from Somerset secured the aggregates in both multi disciplines for them.

So, the playoff was between Andrew Pinkawa/Grant Soller, Adam Smith/Andrew Cowlin and Stephen Proctor/Chris Shakeshaft. Winning ends came from Adam and Procy sealing the match 2-1.

Daventry Ibc is a Lazer free zone. Please have this in mind when packing your bowls bag this weekend.

ESMBA Open pairs 2015: a Cheshire name on the trophy!

Posted by on August 24, 2015 in News | Comments Off on ESMBA Open pairs 2015: a Cheshire name on the trophy!

The ESMBA hosted an open pairs competition on Saturday 22nd August, with prize money and a place in the World Championships, up for grabs for the winners. 64 pairs were entered and several players from Cheshire were involved. Fancied pairs going into the event included Steve Proctor and Simon White, Gareth Stanway along with North Yorks’ Ben Render, and Grant Soller playing with Hampshire’s Jason Mclean. The final stages of the event saw some quality bowling, not least from Anthony Fautley and Steve Killington from Essex, as they came from 4 behind with one end to play to force an extra end play-off. Steve then ditched the jack to win the tie and set up a final against Cheshire’s Steve Burrows and Northants’ Ed Sawbridge. Steve and Ed played superbly in the final to win the event and therefore clinch their place at the World Championships in March. Well done Ed, and especially Steve, a good start to Cheshire’s season!
